Rare Worcester Porcelain Sauceboat – “The Fisherman and Billboard Island” Pattern, c.1760

Description:
A fine and increasingly scarce Worcester Porcelain press-moulded porcelain sauceboat, dating to circa 1760. Elegantly formed with a strap handle and relief-moulded decoration of panels and floral motifs, the body is arranged with three shaped reserves on each side and beneath the spout.

The piece is expertly hand-painted in the sought-after “Fisherman & Billboard Island” pattern, classified as uncommon in Branyan, French & Sandon (Section I.B.15). The decoration is finely executed, reflecting the quality and artistry of early Worcester production. A blue crescent mark is present to the base.

Condition:
Very good antique condition with minimal handling wear. There is a small, old repair to the lip which is visible on close inspection. The piece also displays typical factory features, including a lightly smoothed underglaze nibble to the rim from manufacture and two minor firing lines (one beneath the foot and one under the handle), all consistent with 18th-century production and not affecting overall display.

Dimensions:

  • Length: 20 cm
  • Width: 11 cm
  • Height: 10.3 cm

Why This Piece Stands Out:

  • Authentic c.1760 Worcester porcelain
  • Rare “Fisherman & Billboard Island” pattern
  • Elegant relief-moulded form
  • Early blue crescent mark
  • Strong display piece with honest period characteristics
