A fine oil on board by the highly regarded artist Marjorie Hawkes. Signed at the lower right and titled with a label on the verso, showing the original price of 20 guineas, this charming work captures the timeless beauty of a Cotswold village. The painting measures 48.5 cm x 58.5 cm and is notable for its rich colouring and well-balanced composition.
Marjorie Hawkes was a draughtsman and painter in oils, born in London. She trained at Heatherley’s, the Central School of Arts and Crafts, and the Westminster School of Art under Bernard Meninsky. Her work has been widely exhibited, with pieces acquired by private collectors both in Britain and abroad. Exhibitions include the LG, Leicester Galleries, O’Hana, as well as galleries in Greece, France, and Italy. She also held solo exhibitions at the Bear Lane Gallery, Oxford, and the Rotunda Gallery.
